19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.
Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.
His retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players traded break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to force a final set.
The opponent defended four early break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
