An individual who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor added: "This year his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
